Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 (February 27, 2010) Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small neighborhood located in the West Island, which is an island in Montreal. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing to people unfamiliar to its significance. They often believe it is an island to the west of Montreal However, the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities in Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is frequently known as the place where she was born. But she only was there for a brief period of time. Brugel grew on Courtice close to Oshawa within Ontario. When she was a child she hoped to become a performer but an unexpected increase in her height made it difficult. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet and 1 inch." When I outgrew my male friends, I quit. Brugel was one of many former dancers who turned into acting. The teacher she had at high school was what pushed her in the right direction. She was encouraged to try out for roles in a school production. Following a trial the role, she was chosen as the main character of Anne of Green Gables. The show was granted a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated from the program in 2000, earning a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. In the 20+ years that followed, Brugel has landed roles on over 60 shows on small and big screens drawing the most interest when she was offered the character in the role of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was only seen on a few occasions in the first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. The only Canadian participant.
